Class Overview and Philosophy
World civilizations is a subject that absolutely fascinates me, and I love sharing that passion for the subject with my students. This course will cover geography, types of governments, ancient China, Greece, Rome, early African civilizations, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and world religions. In teaching about the different religions around the world and throughout history, I teach them as they pertain to and impact the various time and place we are learning about. I am not here to say which one is right or wrong, good or bad, etc...whatever your student believes or doesn't believe is fine. I want the students to be able to critically examine the history we learn about and take away the lessons imbedded. In order to achieve this, the students will be taught a variety of higher level thinking skills, from a variety of sources and through a variety of methods, this year.
I want and expect all my students to come away with a heightened level of curiosity and awareness about themselves and the world in which they live, and then choose to be positively involved in making their communities better places as they go through their lives.
